About the hut

NSG has a hut located on the Takaka Hill.

The hut is for use by members and (on exception) other approved people, rates are $10 per night for non-members, $8 per night for NZSS members, and $5 per night for NSG members. This can be paid into the NSG account directly, or by leaving the money in the envelopes provided in the hut.

We generally only allow people to use the hut once they’re active club members, i.e. have been to meetings and club trips and know other club members.

The hut has a fireplace and wood supplied. No open fires in the vicinity of the hut, please. And no candles inside – the fire risk is too high! 

Book the hut

Large groups are required to book in advance. We recommend NZSS or NSG members contact the hut officer (Greg Pickford, 021 243 6628) before visiting to find out if any large groups are booked in.

Hut payments

For small one-off payments we prefer these are paid in cash in the envelopes provided in the hut.

If you are paying a lump sum covering a number of nights, email us, confirming the dates of your stay and payment made.

For bank transfers, use the following details:

  • Account name: Nelson Speleological Group
  • Account number: 03 0703 0452222 000
  • Reference: [Details of your groups NZSS affiliation (eg. NSG, WSG, ASG, none)]
  • Particulars: Hut + [Date of last day at hut]
